Summer Is My Muse

Blue Ridge Mountains

The sun, the season, and how it shapes the way I do hair.

Summer’s always been my favorite time to color.
Not just because of the energy, but because the sun becomes part of the process. That raw light hits the hair just right—bringing out natural brightness, softening edges, and giving that sunkissed vibe we’re all chasing.

As a colorist, I work with that light—not against it.
That means lifting just enough, glossing in a way that gives tone but leaves room for the sun to finish the job. That’s the balance: intentional color meets effortless summer fade.

Balayage, but Built for Summer

1. Work With the Season

I always tell clients: let summer do some of the lifting. I’ll take you lighter, but then gloss down just a bit. That way, as the weeks go by, the tone lifts naturally—with less maintenance and more wearability.

2. Brass Isn’t the Enemy—But Control It

Some warmth is beautiful. Golden, buttery, honey tones? Love.
But when it gets too orange or flat, it starts to work against the overall look. That’s where a gloss or the right at-home shampoo comes in. Think balance, not overcorrection.

3. Use Summer as Your Inspiration for Fall

One thing I love: letting your summer color evolve into your fall look. When you’ve got a strong base that’s been kissed by the sun, it makes those richer, cooler, moodier tones hit even better in the next season.
